About the workshop

Feminist Africa is inviting Africa-based early-career researchers working on feminist or gender analysis in the social sciences to develop a draft paper into a publishable journal article through a focused online writing retreat.

Programme structure

The four-day online programme combines daily seminars with protected writing sessions. Participants receive practical guidance on academic writing, mentorship in formulating feminist research questions and support for publishing in high-quality journals.

Funding

Successful applicants will receive funding support for high-speed internet access during the online workshop.

Eligibility

  • Be an Africa-based early-career researcher working in feminist or gender-focused social-science research.
  • Have a doctorate awarded after July 2021, or provide evidence of satisfactory progress towards a PhD.
  • Be employed at a recognised university or research institute in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Be fluent in written and spoken English; translation is not provided.

What to prepare

  • A motivation letter of no more than one page.
  • A 5,000–8,000-word draft research paper containing original data and preliminary analysis.
  • An abstract of no more than 500 words.
  • A full CV and a PhD award certificate or supporting doctoral-progress evidence.

Before you apply

  • Confirm that you can attend all online sessions from 16 to 19 November 2026.
  • Prepare the requested documents and submit them through the organiser’s official instructions by 3 August 2026.
