1. What we mean by “cookies”

A cookie is a small record a website leaves in your browser. It can keep a session secure, remember what is in a basket, or save a choice you made. Browsers also offer local storage and session storage, which do similar work without sending the record back with every page request.

We cover all three here. The technical label matters less than knowing what is stored, why it is there, and how long it stays.

2. What we use — and what we do not

Our preference centre has four categories. Here is what those labels mean on this site today.

Strictly necessary

These records keep the public site secure, remember your cookie decision, support sign-in when it is available, and keep a shopping basket together. They are used only when the feature needs them, and switching them off in your browser can make that feature fail.

Functional

If you save a resource, save an opportunity search, or dismiss the newsletter prompt, that choice is kept in this browser. It stays on the device you used; it is not a cross-site profile.

Analytics

This category is available in the preference centre, but we do not currently load an analytics service. Choosing “Analytics” therefore does not start a tracker today.

Marketing

We do not currently use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels or cross-site campaign trackers. If that changes, we will name the service here before it is allowed to run.

3. The current list

This is the working inventory for the public Scholarly-Ink website. Some rows appear only when you use the related feature.

NameStored asWhy it existsHow long
si_cookie_consentCookie + local storageKeeps the categories you chose, the consent version and the time of your choice, so we do not ask on every page.12 months
wordpress_*, wordpress_sec_*, wordpress_logged_in_*CookiesKeeps a WordPress editor session secure. Public clients sign in through the separate Scholarly-Ink authentication service.Session; up to 14 days if “Remember me” is used
wp-settings-*, wp-settings-time-*CookiesRemembers dashboard preferences for site editors. Most visitors will never receive these.1 year
woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart, wp_woocommerce_session_*CookiesKeeps cart contents and the checkout session together when the shop is used.Session; customer session normally 2 days
si_resource_bookmarksLocal storageKeeps the resources you deliberately bookmark on this device.Until you remove the bookmarks or clear browser data
scholarlyInkOpportunitySearchLocal storageKeeps one opportunity search when you choose “Save search”.Until you remove the saved search or clear browser data
si_newsletterLocal storageRemembers that you dismissed or completed the newsletter prompt so it does not keep interrupting you.Until the recorded pause ends or you clear browser data

A useful distinction: saved resources and saved searches stay in your browser. They do not follow you to another device unless a future account feature clearly says that it will sync them.

4. Your choices

Use the button below, or the Cookie settings link in the site footer, whenever you want to review your choice. “Reject optional” leaves necessary cookies on and turns the optional categories off.

Your browser can also delete or block cookies and site data. Blocking everything is a blunt tool: sign-in, checkout, saved items and saved searches may stop working or be forgotten.

5. When this page changes

We review this list when a site feature starts storing something new or when a provider changes. If we introduce an optional analytics or marketing tool, we will update the inventory, change the consent version and ask you to choose again before that tool runs.

6. Questions about cookies

If a name in the inventory is unfamiliar, or you want to know what was stored after using a feature, write to privacy@scholarly-ink.com. For the wider picture of how we handle personal information, read our Privacy Policy.
